Alec Baldwin's Mom's House

Camillus, NY
Grade: A+

Chalk this one up as possibly the strangest thing that has ever happened to me. We went out to the Wegmans in Fairmount this evening to pick up some groceries. As we were wheeling our cart through the aisles, we noticed a cluster of excited people standing towards the back of the store. We moved closer, and realized that the people were standing around Alec Baldwin and an older woman (who, we later discovered, was his mother). One of the Wegmans customers was speaking to Mr. Baldwin about how much they enjoy 30 Rock:

I myself am a fan of underrated/forgotten 90s action movies, and so I shouted, "Forget 30 Rock! What about Mercury Rising!"

To which Mr. Baldwin laughed in a good-natured manner. While moving through the store later, we again saw the mother and son, pushing their own cart along and this time unencumbered by a crowd of people. It was at this point that I had a fairly crazy idea. I approached Mr. Baldwin, who turned to me and said, "Mercury Rising. I'd forgotten I was in that one." Having seen him on Letterman last year -- as well as his Wegmans commercials that air frequently in the CNY area -- I knew that his mother lived in Camillus, not far up the road. I mentioned my blog, and asked if it might be possible for me to review his mother's restroom. I did not expect him to say yes, and indeed he seemed pretty weirded out at first. I pulled out my cell phone and brought up my blog so that he could see I was not (entirely) a crazy person.  After showing him a few entries, he said, "We'll be done here in just a few minutes. If we see you up front, you can follow us to the house." Not wanting to miss this insane opportunity, I proceeded immediately to the checkout. I met up with them a few minutes later, followed them to the house, and was allowed to come in briefly to take pictures.

The bathroom itself was beautiful (and the dog very cute), but the facilities are of course not the highlight of this post. I would like to thank Mr. Baldwin for being extremely gracious, accommodating and trusting (though, if you know me, you know that I am not the most threatening-looking man). What a crazy experience!
